He lives in the main house on the property and, together with his son, Chrestof, will act as manager and host. They bring flair and energy to the task.
Quotes from the beautiful hand-made safari guest book:
"it's a world or harmony and tranquility. I love these treehouses nestled on the hill. Such a wonderful idea." "we were so lucky to have not only the beginning but also the end of a wonderful journey through kenya here at the Ngong house. Just enjoying the warm hospitality, the excellent cooking, the amazing surroundings, the unforgettable sunset..."
At night, guests arrive to a campfire and safari chairs under a huge fever tree-what an introduction to Kenya. The giraffe center is only 10 minute walk away and a four-wheel drive vehicle is available for travels further a field. Trips to the Nairobi National Park, museums, local markets, shops and galleries can be arranged.
When you stay at the Ngong House, all meals, alcohol (excluding champagne) and transport to and from the airport etc are included in the price. On special request, the main house is also available. Dinners and lunches can be arranged for groups.
At giraffe Manor, a great deal of emphasis is placed on elegant gourmet dining. In fact, when there are no guests staying at the manor, it is possible to arrange for a group of 10-20 to be served sumptuous meals in this grand set5ting. For larger groups a marque can be set up in the grounds-a perfect place for a special event.
You are paying for exclusivity when you stay at Giraffe Manor. There are seldom more than eight guests at a time, and they are usually all from one party. However, there are expansion plans to accommodate a few more guests without sacrificing the manor's personal or exclusive atmosphere.
This is meant to be a home, not a hotel. The bedrooms vary considerably in size and grandeur. Four bedrooms have bathrooms ensuite. A smaller room off the master bedroom has a shower and would be suitable for children traveling with their parents. The master bedroom has a fire place and a huge bed. The walls are covered in bright striped fabrics. In the black and white tiled bathrooms, water spots into the the bath from a lion's head. Another room has some of Karen Blixen's original furniture. The smaller rooms are rather ordinary. The upstairs is not as impressive as the lower floor.
As Rick says, the "whole point of this place is to relax." Guests are free to wander in the extensive grounds, feed and photograph the giraffe and warthogs, go on a nature walk in the adjoining forest. There are more than 170 species of birds, and you might also see bushbuck or dik dik. You are encouraged to make yourself completely at home in the manor-settle down and read a book, admire the view, help yourself to a drink.
Right next door, and in view of the manor is the popular and successful AFEW giraffe centre. Here visitors can come to feed the giraffe, take the nature Walk, and learn more about wildlife and conservation.
The manor has been visited by a host of famous people-Margaret Mead, Bobby Kennedy, Brooke Shields, Hal Prince, Mick Jagger and Johnny Carson, just to name afew.
